We are closing in on the end of this entire series and we’re still slogging around in subplots. Still, I have to admit I’m fond of some of them, which is good, since the main storyline is still fairly disappointing.
In particular, I like that Diane’s struggle with getting away from her abusive husband is shown fairly authentically. It’s at least one moment where we can see what it really is like to be in a battered partner relationship.
I also like that Neil is compassionate with Diane.
It’s worth noting just how heavily many people drink in this show, and how they feature AA meetings as well. Worcester is known for its heavy drinking It’s a good topic to discuss, especially as it intertwines with abusive partners.
